10 Days: Count down to Dangerous

Last night I got into San Diego around 11pm and checked into a hotel by the beach in Encinitas with Michael Hiney and a couple other friends… and this morning I woke up around 5:30am and went down to Moonlight beach. The surf was incredible. The sun was looking for somewhere to poke out from but the coast line is socked in. We’ll probably get some sun later today.

A couple days ago I took at picture from the past several years. We’re really the first generation to see our lives like this. We push a button on Facebook and suddenly the last 6 or so years of your life are right there to look at. I went through every photo I’ve ever been tagged in and tried to soak in just how everything has changed… and everything is still changing.

At the end of the first Dangerous Summer, I had a few people asking me why it was so important. Why did I shoot hours on hours of video of my friends and then go and spend more hours and even days editing this video of a Summer that was a little different then the ones before. I had only one answer:

I fell in love with my friends.

I was done with my self pity party. I was done with being alone. I realized that what I wanted all along was what God had right in front of me. I have a life and that life is a story worth telling. It’s been given a sound stage created by God located in the mist of galaxies. There’s beaches and big houses and fast cars and good food. What makes it all interesting though, what makes my story, and your story too, is that God has seen you fit to be a character in His story. The kid who got picked last in PE class every time; He gave that kid a story. That kid grew up and now sits on a beautiful beach watching the waves come in. His friends will come from all over the world and watch the water with him.

My friends became family that summer. I realized I wasn’t the only one with problems. I was no longer the only one with scars on my shins. We all were ready for something. Something better than our old lives that we’ve trashed and destroyed. We all in some way began to discover the life God wanted us to have. It was horizons from easy and listening at first were only whispers to our hearts but we found love in a dangerous way.

This summer, Dangerous comes home. And the story that started 3 years ago will see its next chapter. This summer, it is all up for grabs. And everyone is invited. This summer, Take Back Your Life.
